The pooled standard error uses a combined estimate of the proportion under the assumption of equal proportions (null hypothesis). The unpooled standard error calculates the standard error for each group separately and then combines them without assuming equal proportions. The pooled version is generally preferred when the null hypothesis is likely true and sample sizes are adequate.
