How does the scale of a DoS attack compare to that of a DDoS attack?

DDoS attacks are, by nature, on a much larger scale than DoS attacks. The 'Distributed' element allows DDoS attacks to generate significantly more traffic, making them more potent and capable of taking down even robust systems that could withstand a standard DoS attack.
