The encoder strip is a clear plastic strip with fine vertical lines that runs along the carriage path. It helps the printer track the print head's position. If the strip is dirty, damaged, or misaligned, it can cause the 5100 error. Clean it carefully with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water.
